Yes, I am using emacs-xft,
$ emacs -r --enable-font-backend --font "Bitstream Vera Sans Mono-12"
BTW, you may follow the following instructions to build emacs-xft on
solairs, http://www.genunix.org/wiki/index.php/Emacs-xft
