I think an opensolaris.org project would be the best way to go. If somebody from Sun like Moinak can dot the i's and cross the t's, we are ready to run.
Just an update, I have just built everything with Sun Pro C other than Thunar, and have a working Xfce 4.4 desktop. I will make an extra package in the morning to incorporate it into CDE login and GDM (with d-bus etc). Then I will spend some time on nasty macros in Thunar.....
