bug buddy was historically disabled because the Sun GNOME team didn't
want to spend the effort / diverge enough from the community to comply
with the guidelines the ARC required for it to be used. The full set
can probably be found in the GNOME 2.0 or so ARC case logs, but from
memory, the most important parts were:
- ensure user privacy is protected, and the user understands what data
is being submitted, who will be able to access it once submitted,
and doesn't submit any core files that may contain data they don't
want others to see
- ensure users understand that bug-buddy submission is not filing a
service request with Sun, and does not provide any guarantee of a
bug fix or even core evaluation by someone at Sun
Bonus points would be given for ensuring it could be submitted somewhere
that a tech support engineer could get to it if the user had a service
contract. Of course, making the data available to non-Sun-employees
would be both challenging and yet probably desirable if you want to
allow community participation.
