Sorry, that's just the startup time - how long it takes for the
application to appear and to kill it using the window manager.
The actual work time is dominated by me selecting the region,
I expect. The real point is that if you want to grab a region then
sdtimage is effectively instant, while waiting for the gimp to start
up involves a definite break which is always bad.
