It may also be worth noting in those instructions that someone new to building the code may find that the source tarballs named in the spec files no longer exist at the distribution sites.  I gave up trying to build myself, as one in every ten source files simply didn't exist anymore.   Oftentimes the distributor had moved onto a new version... sometimes several versions.

Kind of illustrates the problem of trying to develop against moving targets.
