I have libexpat.so at a couple of places. The only one I've replaced was
$ ls -l /usr/sfw/lib/libexpat*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 Jul 2 20:10 /usr/sfw/lib/libexpat.so -> libexpat.so.1.5.2
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 Jun 8 17:04 /usr/sfw/lib/libexpat.so.0 -> libexpat.so.0.5.0
-r-xr-xr-x 1 root bin 263324 May 18 00:16 /usr/sfw/lib/libexpat.so.0.5.0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 Jul 2 20:10 /usr/sfw/lib/libexpat.so.1 -> libexpat.so.1.5.2
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 385152 Jul 4 09:10 /usr/sfw/lib/libexpat.so.1.5.2
I run snv_65 in 32-bit...
