[desktop-discuss] Gnome 2.18.0 on Solaris 10

Some thoughts dealt with how to bridge the gap between Sun GNOME 2.6 users and the current workstations. I've been using the Sun Ultra 40 workstation for several months in which the main issue I had with the configuration dealt with the outdated GNOME 2.6 desktop environment for Solaris 10.

Because of recent GNOME application developments, GNOME 2.14.3 and below are becoming 'outdated' desktop environments.

GNOME 2.16 and above will assist the Solaris user community in supporting JDS in the future. We'd hope through the community discussion of an updated GNOME, there will be some consideration to use GNOME 2.18.0 as the next desktop environment for Solaris 10u4 and the next major release of Sun Solaris.

I consider this a major win for Sun for consumers using Sun Ultra 40/45 workstations and Sun Solaris for SOHO/business laptops.
