[desktop-discuss] Funky "\" Backslash Character

Hello,

When I type and/or view a "\" on a Gnome Terminal, the character
looks like a "W" with a horizontal line thru the left side...

Any idea what this is and/or how to stop it from translating?

This does not impact a shell from executing as if normal.... just the
display is funky.
