Given that SXCE would eventually replaced by Indiana, there is quite a good chance somehow a better theme will find its way back. (At least I hope so.)

Agreed, bottom line (I think for me) is to have a linux friendly interface, be it /usr/gnu, bash as default, or GNOME, and in the meantime, having something unique to opensolaris.org distro., even it's just a user experience/emotion thing.
Otherwise, I fear that the whole linux-compatible point of Indiana will not be the saving grace, but the killing knife w.r.t the goal of attracting more people.
Imagine: "Hey, it's just another linux, zfs? ok, that's something cool, RBAC? I can make do with sudo. heck it's even not as eyecandy as my ubuntu.." sort of sentiment..
