[desktop-discuss] Web Engine project proposal

Hello,

I'd like to propose a new Open Solaris project called "Web Engine". The 
project will enlarge web client application base of  the solaris desktop.

The main goal of  web engine project is to port popular opensource 
browser engines like webkit (http://webkit.org) to the solaris platform. 
The project  will also enrich solaris desktop with  browser 
applications  based on the engines. The resulting ports and applications 
will be represented as set of development and runtime packages for all 
the architectures. The project will also consider usage of Sun Studio 
compilers for improving performance and reliability of the resulting 
applications and libraries. There will be up to date guide for resolving 
porting issues concerning solaris specific features.

This project will be initiated by creating packages of the preliminary 
port of WebKit browser engine.

The leader of the project will be Alexey Ushakov (OS id avu).
