Actually, i need for business reason that the following applications should have the duplex and the paper tray option available : 

- gedit => this application can only select "print to file" or the default printer
- Evolution
- StarOffice => Duplex mode is available but not the paper tray selector
- Firefox => Sun has provide a patch to Mozilla community but something block the integration
- Adobe Reader 8 => only CUPS can communicate the right information through libcups library.
- Gimp
- Evince

This is maybe wrong, but is this functionalities planned to be supported on GTK only through PAPI and IPP ? 

Is is not easier to use CUPS on Solaris that to recreate a new API ?
