This sounds like a great project. Will it have any impact on any of the
other media programs we ship in Solaris (e.g. totem, rhythmbox)? Will
Songbird be a replacement for these programs, or a new program that
further augments the multimedia tools we offer?
Some issues with the dependencies:
- libgpod - Is this an optional dependency or a hard dependency. Since
this contains reverse engineered code from Apple, it might be some
work to OSR.
- sqlite - This is not a supported database by Sun, so it might be hard
to get this in. Not sure if it would be hard to make Songbird work
with an existing supported database instead.
I know Irene Huang here at Sun is working to get some support for this
into Solaris for some other desktop programs, so you might want to
work with her on this. I've cc:ed her so you can see her email
address.
