[desktop-discuss] Compiz 0.6.2 "Fatal: No GLXFBConfig for default depth" error

I'm running Nv75a.  The 0.5.2 packages Compiz-fusion bundle was working fine for me, but the new 0.6.2 release seems to die on startup with a message "compiz (core) Fatal: No GLXFBConfig for default depth, this isn't going to work". I'm using an Intel i915 and 3d hacks (eg screensavers etc.) seem to be fine. There seem to be a lot of Linux users with this problem lately, but I haven't seen any consistant advice on how to fix it. Any suggestions?
