It because of the x11 in the pkgconfig.pc for gtk, and other packages:
$ /usr/bin/pkg-config gtk+-2.0 --cflags
Package x11 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `x11.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
Package 'x11', required by 'Xrender', not found
This is a known issue that I believe is being resolved in the sfw
compilation. Look on the sfw discuss list for more info, I think.
