Yes, I'd encourage you to contribute directly to the g-d-m project, 
which will eventually trickle back into Solaris. Last time I spoke with 
David, he was too busy with PolicyKit, which slowed down his progress 
with g-d-m. The right list for g-d-m discussions is 
utopia-list at gnome.org, I think.

It just makes good sense to combine all efforts and produce one good 
device manager GUI, rather than multiple poor ones. Most of the UI code 
should be kept OS neutral by hiding OS specifics in the HAL backend.
