OIC!   That is a tough one.

/usr/dt/app-defaults/C/Dtterm has the intriguing entry:

! To make ONLY the terminal text area background a different color:
! Dtterm*term.background: dimGray

but I couldn't make it work.

Unfortunately the dt* binaries do not speak the editres protocol
so it's difficult to find just what the app is using.
