Make sure you install the development packages.  OpenSolaris
comes without system headers (and other development tools)
by default.  Off the top of my head, you definitely need these:

SUNWhea
SUNWsfwhea
SUNWgmake
SUNWgpch
SUNWgnome-common-devel

There are probably more...
