A little addendum
I don't know if it is relevant or how to exploit this, but I noticed that, consistently, if there is something in the dvd drive the system reboots earilier when trying to start a GNOME session.If the drive is empty I can see the desktop appear, icons, panel and can even use the mouse for a pair of seconds before the reboot. If a support is in the drive the box reboots almost immediatly after password insertion
