fmdump shows what faults have been diagnosed in the past, while
fmdump -e shows what error reports have been received.
All fault and ereport classes are maintained in a registry. That
has recently been released at
http://www.opensolaris.org/os/project/events-registry You have
to download a tarball and follow the instructions on the page
to browse the events (this can't be done on the website yet
because of cgi-bin restrictions, I believe). Sun-internal
users can browse http://events.central
As for the diagnosis criteria, that's a whole lot more complex.
We do have error philosophy and diagnosis algorithm documents
(slightly outdated in places) but reading them typically requires
substantial understanding of the error types involved and how
they can interact in a system. If you have a specific question
regarding a particular error type we can answer that here, but
otherwise it would be an essay or book!
