Right now iam working on Solaris Nevada . Iam able to switch to Telugu input: Indic->Indicle: Press F5 4 times (or) Gimlet->Preferences->Languages/Scripts: Add Telugu language I saw some problems in Combining Vowels and Vowel Diacritics. Diacritics are not correctly combined. Also unable to get the input of Conjunct Consonants which are described in the referred page. Please guide me on the same. (Even some of the private area mappings in the Saraswati font were used for some character combinations). These were not tested with Gnome applications much (mostly because Pango, the gnome layout engine had many bugs in Indic locales and we never had requirements to look into Indic locale issues) Pl. file bugs on the issues you find. Someone will look into those.
