I think this is a good idea.  While I was only forced to learn
perl a few years ago, I know a lot of sys admins who prefer it.
Anything which would be more comfortable to sys admins
is a good thing.

FWIW, a lot of commonly used commands in /usr/bin and
/usr/sbin are written in perl already.

... then there is the group of customers who want to 
minimize systems and remove perl.  sigh.  Can't seem
to please everyone all of the time :-/

It will take a perl module, but once done, it should live a
long time with minimal extra work.  I think it is a great
idea, but it will take a perl bigot to make happen... Peter
