The data flow API is a great way to extract parallelism from your application.  As systems are built with more and more cpus (threads, strands, whatever), new methods will be required to realize the potential performance.  I think CORD will be one of those methods.  Making it an open source effort will (hopefully) get more people familiar with and interested in the data flow programming model.
