Message-ID: <14287873.1143757351451.JavaMail.suncom@oss2> So here it is, the OpenSolaris Immigrants Community. Pretty sweet, eh? For details on what this group is about please see the following: - Announcement: http://www.opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=7323&tstart=0 - Community Page: http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/immigrants/ - Blog: http://cuddletech.com/blog/pivot/entry.php?id=591 There are several resources that you might find useful: - planetsolaris.org - docs.sun.com - cvs.opensolaris.org - www.genunix.org - blogs.sun.com - ... in addition to our beloved opensolaris.org. I'm also pleased to announce that Tom Haynes has agreed to come aboard as a leader of this community, in addition to Adam Leventhal who first proposed this community, and myself. I strongly suggest that you check out Tom's blog either by going direct to it (http://blogs.sun.com/roller/page/tdh) or reading it on the PlanetSolaris.org aggrigator. Welcome aboard and let the fun begin. benr. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org From stefanparvu14 at yahoo.com Fri Mar 31 02:13:03 2006 From: stefanparvu14 at yahoo.com (Stefan Parvu) Date: Fri, 31 Mar 2006 02:13:03 PST Subject: [immigrants-discuss] Re: Welcome one and all! Are you offering Solaris Green Cards too ? A better name would have been Migration. stefan -- This message posted from opensolaris.org From benr at cuddletech.com Fri Mar 31 03:22:00 2006 From: benr at cuddletech.com (Ben Rockwood) Date: Fri, 31 Mar 2006 03:22:00 -0800 Subject: [immigrants-discuss] Re: Welcome one and all! Please review that discussion on OS-Discuss for the full scoop. Beyond that, as stated in the announcements, "migration" has a certain conentation associated with it that we don't want. Frankly, neither name is quite right imho, but when I was pressed for something better I came up blank. We're trying to not only provide a new community but also to set a diffrent tone for that community and boring old "migration" doesn't fit it. In particular, migration implies formal commitment, your moving from one thing to another. Immigrant, on the other hand, implies someone starting down a path, checking it out as they go, but free to come or go as they please. This group isn't just for people moving from RHEL to Solaris, is also for people running Gentoo who want to check out OpenSolaris to see what the buzz is about, or FreeBSD users to see what OpenSolaris can offer, etc, etc. As for green cards... I'm sure Sara could arrange something for us. Thats a pretty good idea actually. I'll look into it! :) benr.
