True. So lets have a controlled repository and introduce release
tags/build
labels such that a tested consistent set of package versions are
tagged. Normally
the apt thing will pull in package versions from the same release
label and
allow upgrading to a newer release label. This should bring in
sanity, instead
   of package versions constantly changing/updating.

Of course there has to be an unstable, untagged set for the
adventurous souls
wanting to be on the bleeding edge and ready to endure breakage.

Isn't desktops/developer desktops one of the major targets for Indiana ?

Disagree here. I have been running Compiz 0.5.0 on my office development
desktop with Nevada B60 now for a month without it being switched off or
rebooted or hanged once. In fact I find more ease of use than the vanilla
   Gnome desktop.

I have been using Compiz 0.3 on my home PC for 2 months without a single
hang. All plugins are sane except for the Annotate plugin which isn't
very
   useful as well.

Beryl however is unstable and tends to core. That's probably due to
some bugs
   in the texture code.

In any case Beryl/Compiz are just packages, and it is entirely upto
the user
here whether to use them or not.

Regards,
Moinak.
