Hi all,
In my opinion, if You want to use Solaris or Solaris Express for Desktop
or workstation use, NOT server, You must use many sources to obtain what
you want. First there is the base (Solaris 10 or Express), the
sunfreeware, blastwave and NetBSD's pkgsrc. But the problem is, that
many of the packages will be duplicated in your system. You can't
upgrade gaim from the base with a newer version from blastwave, you will
get two gaim installations for example. OK you can delete the old one,
but it for a someone who is new here, is difficult. When I was new to
the solaris world, I was afraid to delete a package from the base
install. And a minimal install iso would be also nice and practical,
for example, to allow to build a system from scratch on top of the
Solaris kernel.
