I thought I had read that they were intending it to be a fully freely 
redistributable distribution; as of now, it can't be fully open source 
due to the required closed binaries.

Which means they can't bundle the Sun compilers - but they might be able 
to setup some sort of 'apt-get-ish' thing to let people download it via 
the network or something after the fact (again depending on how Sun 
feels about it)
