Bash was selected for this preview as an experiment since there seemed
to be a consensus that having a familiar shell for *interactive*
purposes was important. The idea of having a shell option on the
"initial user" screen is a great one - could you please file a RFE at
http://defect.opensolaris.org/ so we can capture this.
Of course, the other tools for creating new users such as useradd(1M)
and users-admin(1) already include the ability to select a shell for
the new user.

Remember, there's a difference between the interactive shell used by
users and the default scripting shell, namely what's /bin/sh. I would
argue that being familiar to new users coming from other operating
systems should be weighed more heavily in the interactive case; in the
scripting case, having something which has a history of compatibility
and perhaps implements a well-known standard such as POSIX is a worthy
goal.
