Using bash is really a political decision, one that I personally don't agree. However, I can see the utility of this. In the Linux world, many users equate sh == bash and write scripts with bash'isms, even though they put #!/etc/sh in the header!
I would have preferred if we were given a choice during installation time for the default shell. I'd even accept bash as the default for the uninitiated. When it comes to NON-interactive job control, I put ksh at the top of my list. I've spent countless hours working out how to deal with this issue and ksh just works. Bash, sh, csh have caused me nothing but grief. I haven't played with ksh93 enough to see if it broke something.
In fact, I think it's important to have choices for many installation options. Something as simple as having an "Options..." button on some of the Caiman screens would suffice. For the general public, they could just ignore these buttons and use the Indiana chosen defaults.
