As a user, I can't see why leaving the prefix is a big deal.  It does provide useful information... For example, It can tell me at a glance which repository I'm actively connected with.

It also allows third-parties package servers to distinguish themselves and prevent a naming conflict.  For example, a package called "jet" may be an editor from one server, a game in another, and a utility in a third.  I know this is a "you shouldn't do that" situation, but people do.

Just my 2 cents.

BTW, what are the rules for SFE vs FSW distinction?
