If we want to target the mass market, impulse buy, lowend, consumer
PC, this Ubuntu $199 Walmart Google PC would be a good hardware "test"

(It would be nice to be able to say, here is a $199 PC that
OpenSolaris is certified to work on). It should help alleviate any
concerns about cost of entry when it comes to becoming an OpenSolaris
developer.
One issue. It supports the ultra inexpensive Via processor, which I
haven't heard anyone mention supporting.
