I have been testing the Transfer module on a Dell Latitude D600 with
512MB RAM since that was the only spare machine I had. Did not face
any problems in running stuff in JDS while booted off the LiveCD. The
entire copying process takes about 20mins.
However the cpio's do thrash the page cache quite a bit. This is mostly
due to lofi not freeing pages where it should. The recent updates to
compressed lofi by Alok should fix this.
