The first page uses Big5 (traditional Chinese, ROC) character set, while the second uses GB2312 (simplified Chinese, PRC). These are two of the most popular Chinese web pages (but I have experienced similar slowness problems in other Chinese-language pages). This is way beyond my league, but perhaps someone could look into this problem, unless we are willing to shut ourselves from the Greater China market? (Hope not!)

I think specifying the JAVA_HOME environmental variable (& modify the java package somewhat) should solve this problem. We want to make sure that our OS is java-ready. This is the most basic requirement.
