Well, I am relieved to report that this problem has been (kind of) solved; it was (most likely) related to the frugality of fonts included in DP2.

Everything (wrt to browsing Chinese-language web pages) appears to be normal now after I copied several true type fonts from SuSE (can't dual-boot Indiana with another Solaris).

I understand that a new Chinese font family (Arphic-uming) has been made available to the OpenSolaris CD to be released next month.  Is there anyway I can play with these new fonts?  Thanks.
