This is exactly what the Phase 1 NWAM GUI spec currently proposes[1],  
except that right now it usually shows you the 'old-style' hardware  
name too:

(Unfortunately, in this particular mockup, the 'old-style' name is  
coincidentally shown as net0, net1 etc., which is obviously what  
people are now proposing for the 'new-style' names...)
