I used Indiana Preview 2 LiveCD, and wasn't able to connect using the nwamd. So I disabled it following the documented instructions, and tried to connect manually using Network manager under the System menu. The first time it said it activated the wired ethernet devices, but it did not give any DNS information. The second time after unchecking the start at boot option, it did give DNS information, and nameservers. Okay, I thought I am connected, but I was not. Firefox would not connect to any remote servers. I was connected to the network, but not able to access it. I checked the preferences under Firefox just to make sure that the connect to the internet directly box was checked, and it was so that was okay. I will give my whole system information via Linux lshw, as someone more experienced may see why the network would be !

If you got anything up, then it isn't a lack of driver issue.
The usual tools for testing networks should be available:
ifconfig, ping, dig, netstat, snoop, ...
There is also a network monitor applet which you can add
to your menu bar. It works similarly to network monitors on
other OSes, except for the configuration part is done by nwam.
