Traditionally Solaris has produced accurate sized type based on
display resolution. You could measure the size of the type on the
screen (points are a physical measurement unit, although there are
several slightly different ones) and it would be quite correct. Has
this changed? Windows only uses the specified size as a hint,
depending on the icon size selected. Based on standard units, 8 point
would be quite small, 10 point would be small, 12 point is medium, and
14 point is large. 16 point is for blind people.
As a point of reference, the commonly used Postscript point size is
1/72 inch/point. Measure the size of the type in your browser and see
if it meets any standard.
