Well I'm not a core developer of OpenSolaris but I think I can answer this, since this is how my laptop is currently configured. Yes - you can do what you suggest. OpenSolaris will happily install to free space on your hard disk.

Yes - both will be available as boot options once you install OpenSolaris. The 2008.11 version has accessibility features built into the installer. There are 2 new options on the boot menu of the CD - one starts a screen magnifier and the other a screen reader.
