Thanks, that really helped.

But I am still getting the same error message when trying to run openoffice:

bash-3.2$ cd -
/opt/openoffice.org2.3/program
bash-3.2$ ./soffice
javaldx: Could not find a Java Runtime Environment! 
ld.so.1: soffice.bin: fatal: relocation error: file /opt/openoffice.org2.3/program/libvclplug_gen680si.so: symbol XineramaGetInfo: referenced symbol not found
5080 Killed

(I have downloaded and installed jre-6u3-solaris-i586.sh .)
