I agree with Ludo very much.

And to bolster this argument just a bit, as a runtime the JRE is very 
much a 'core infrastructure' component for lots of other software people 
may want to run. It also have Java Web Start in there, so popular apps 
like BlogBridge and apps deployed internal to companies using JNLP would 
fail unless there is an install and then they add the JRE.

Having said that, SUNWj6rt doesn't even include enough to develop code. 
For instance, you wouldn't be able to run NetBeans or Eclipse with 
SUNWj6rt alone, you'd need at least SUNWj6dev.

Looking at this a different way, I think the goal is for the right 
things to be there during the boot of the live CD "kicking the tires" 
phase, right? From that perspective, there are a number of things that 
are in your list which you may not need when kicking the tires, but will 
want when you actually install for the first time. From a quick review: 
SUNWscm, SUNWrdc, SUNWspsv, SUNWfwflash, SUNWtftp, SUNWiscsitgt.

Is there any kind of installer support to say 'get these packages for a 
basic system install' even though they're not part of the Live CD?

If so, that could remove a number of smaller things that wouldn't be 
touched during a Live CD run to leave room for the fact that someone may 
try to use Gimp or Java Web Start.
