Please keep in mind the following, builds 90,91 and 93 are broken in my Vaio, I think that is your problem and not an upgrade issue, try boot "Nevada 93" media, and I guess you will see exactly the same problem, builds <= 89 works without any problem on my Vaio VGN-FZ11Z, however all mentioned builds fail to boot installer, all stop at "Configuring /dev", this is also true for Vaio VGN-FZ21M reported by a friend of mine.
