my modus operandi is to install everything java using a single command (thanks a whole bunch to Sun's Java team!):

pfexec pkg install java-dev

This (simple IPS command), plus the OpenSolaris triumvirate (ZFS, DTrace, Zone), will make OpenSolaris the best platform for Java developers.  :-)

BTW, what's the difference b/t commands with pfexec and without?  Where can I find the relevant info?  Thanks.
