It's just that the latest Nvidia drivers shipped with 2008.05 don't work with the old card, but they're still installed and you need to remove them first. Try running
$ pfexec pkg uninstall pkg:/NVDAgraphics
and then try installing the drivers you downloaded again
# ./NVIDIA-Solaris-x86-96.43.05.run
