And mysql!  Peter has a good point here.  Just because we now have a 
package manager which handles dependencies doesn't mean we should throw 
everything (1.2Gig of stuff for java dev!) at the developer.  IMHO, a 
package shouldn't list a recommended supplemental package as a 
dependency.  It's perfectly O.K. to have a meta package which contains 
everything, but it should be labeled as such:

pkg install 
javawebdeveloper_everythingyoucouldpossiblywantandthensome-metapackage

Also, shouldn't pkg smart be smart enough to know what architecture is 
being installed on and grab the correct components? 

pkg install java-dev-only-latest-anyarch

You don't even have to make the architecture decision on the package 
server, take a look at Apple/NeXT's fat binaries.  I hope the days when 
patchadd or pkgadd cheerfully installs binaries for the wrong 
architecture are far behind us.
