Try to manually open a .jnlp file (which could be a dummy file) using /usr/java/bin/javaws .  Next time Firefox will correctly open .jnlp files with Java Web Start (you can see that javaws will be registered in Firefox preference).

This is a very stupid approach; however, I have not found a better way.  :-(
