With a stock out of the box OpenSolaris install I installed Studio 12 and ksh93

then I tried a perl 5.10.0 build :

Use which C compiler? [/opt/SUNWspro/bin/cc]

Checking for GNU cc in disguise and/or its version number...
"try.c", line 1: cannot find include file: <stdio.h>
cc: acomp failed for try.c

*** WHOA THERE!!! ***
    Your C compiler "/opt/SUNWspro/bin/cc" doesn't seem to be working!
    You'd better start hunting for one and let me know about it.

not even the most basic headers are around ?

The README file for perl says that the fowlloing packages are needed :

as it stands right now, the current OpenSolaris 200805 binary comes
with no compiler and no headers.

Perhaps the installer can allow the user to tick off some of these
things and get them dragged down during install?
