Indiana's target (what the developers hope to support) is exactly 512MB.

However there are many motherboards with integrated video that, while 
you may have 512MB installed, steal some of it for the video controller, 
and leave somethign less than 512MB for the OS.

I had this problem on a Dell I was installing to. The BIOS gave me the 
option of 'stealing' either 8MB, or 1MB, but that didn't seem to make 
much difference ( I think once the OS boots the video driver can 
dynamically change what it 'stolen' regardless of that setting.)

What I finally did, was to pick 'text console' at the GRUB menu, and 
then I ssh'd in from another machine. I set and exported $DISPLAY to 
point back to my desktop on the other machine and then i ran the 
installer. 'gui-installer' is what it's called I think.

By not starting X on the machine while booted from the CD, not only did 
the instlal complete, but it ran noticably faster (still not quick though.)
