Probably just because any time the issue is (informally) raised, we  
seem to have a roughly equal split of fervent TB and Evo users.  So  
rather than annoying half our users by making them download their mail  
client of choice, both were included.

Yes, and I personally wouldn't have a problem if the team picked one  
for the CD and left the other in the repository.  Provided the one  
they picked for the CD was Evolution :)

I'm pretty sure doing that alone wouldn't free up enough space for  
OO.o, but the lack of OO.o does seem to be a common criticism so I'd  
agree it would be good to figure out a way to squeeze it on the CD  
somehow.

OpenSolaris isn't really aimed at 'new users' (with no Linux  
background) at this point in time, so I don't think that's a major  
concern at present.  Only one mail client (TB) has a launcher on the  
default panel, so that's what any 'new users' are likely to find and  
use unless they go looking for something else.
