I guess it's not in the FAQ because right now only one, free  
repository is available.  I'm sure you will see announcements when  
additional repositories and support options come online.

As I understand it, this is how long Ubuntu promises to provide  
critical bugfix and security patches for a particular release for  
free.  AFAIK, Sun plans to do exactly the same for each release of  
OpenSolaris, for a certain amount of time.

But, you can also buy support for Ubuntu:

This is the same sort of paid support option that Sun are talking  
about for OpenSolaris.  Customers who pay for support will have access  
to an additional repository.  I don't know the details of how that  
will differ from the free repository, but I guess it may provide  
things like longer support for particular releases, or bugfixes for  
particular customers.
