I have the same issue with a desktop computer.

Hardware's a Gigabyte X48-DQ6, based on the Intel X48 chipset (obviously), running a Core 2 Quad 9450. I shutdown and reboot the system using init 5/6. Rebooting always works, shutting down is random. Sometimes it stays after syncing, sometimes it shuts power off.
