I have found that the tarball version of FF 3.0.3 works the best, with almost no trouble.  I simply unzip and untar it into my home directory, w/o invoking any root privilege, and create a launcher to run from there.  I am doing this for all three Solaris systems: Solaris proper (10u6), Solaris Express (101) and OpenSolaris (100).
